The 121st death caused by ISOLATION: Serdar Demirel Isolation continues to kill!
Blood flows from the walls of the F-type prisons. Follow the traces of blood. They lead to the AKP. They continue at the corridors of the Ministry of Justice and the presidency of the AKP government. Now their hands are stained with the blood of Serdar Demirel.
Already in their first days in power they shed the blood of Serdar Karabulut. That was in November 2002. Karabulut was the 98th person killed by the isolation tyranny. The AKP has already killed 24 people under isolation.
The bloody hands of the AKP continue to stroll in the F-Type prison cells.
The resister of the 12th death fast group, Serdar Demirel, was forcible transported from Sincan F-Type prison to Ankara Numune. Hospital, personally with the order of the AKP government, and he was killed as a result of torture by forced medical intervention on 7th of January, 2006.
Our comrade Serdar Demirel has started with the death fast on 9th of May, 2005, joining the 12th death fast group, which has adopted its name from Fidan Kalsen, one of the first martyrs of the ‘Big Resistance’. Serdar Demirel, who continued his death march exactly for 7 months, decided as some of his comrades before, to burn himself as protest against the politics of breaking the resistance by forced intervention and to smash isolation and censorship.
18th December, 2005: Serdar Demirel has burned himself in his cell. But the prison administration intervened as it has recognized the action. He had only slightly burnings on his hands and ears when he was brought to the infirmary.
28th December 2005: At the infirmary they began to use psychological torture against the death fast resister. But the torturers who understood that they wouldn’t be able to break Serdar’s resistance by this methods, have transfered him to Ankara’s Numune Hospital for forced intervention. They force feeded him on the same day.
29th December 2005: Serdar finally lost his consciousness. He didn’t recognize his relatives who came to visit him. There was a single sentence he said to the doctors of type Mengele around him: Go to hell!?
7th January, 2006: Serdar Demirel, who continued his resistance against the torturer’s attempt to force feed him, was killed by the final intervention.
Saving lives by forced medical intervention means the continuation of the operation “Return to Life” on 19th December.
It isn’t difficult to estimate what happens behind the thick walls and the curtain of censorship of the F-type prisons, led by Minister of Justice Cemil Cicek, who terrorizes all circles of the people and the intellectuals, who criticizes and wants to silence everybody who tells the truth and who confronts all oppositionals with repression, ban, terror and threat.
The oppressors should know: WE’LL DEFEAT ISOLATION!
They want to destroy our thoughts in these death cells full of torture since five years. They try for exactly five years to bring us away from our struggle for independence, democracy and socialism, through isolation, repression, punishments and physical torture. We continue to resist with great sacrifices and heroeship for exactly five years.
They try to oppress the resistance of the people of Turkey against hunger, oppression, dependence and exploitation, isolating the prisoners from each other and the world outside, and by isolating different circles of the people and organisations outside from each other.
Finally we’re going to smash isolation. Our friends and enemies should be both sure about this. The big resistance lasting for 5 years, in which the banner of Serdar Demirel and his comrades was handed over to another, is the strongest support for our conviction and claim regarding our victory against isolation.
Anatolia has never been hope- and helpless. … And as well it isn’t hopeless and helpless today. … We exist and continue to resist and to keep alive hope.
“We continue the biggest and most splendid resistance of the close history, in which our lives turned into seeds that were spread all over Anatolia, with the same determination”. As long as there are people like Serdar, who speak out these words and as long as the seeds are sprouting, it is for sure that the walls of isolation won’t remain as an obstacle before the struggle of the people of Turkey.
Our comrade Serdar Demirel has been one of these seeds as well.
The seeds been scattered to his heart in the second half of the seventies, during our heroic struggle against fascism and imperialism.
Serdar was born in Cankiri, as child of a middle stand clerk family in 1964. But he spent a major part of his life in Istanbul. He has been always close to revolutionary ideas because of the revolutionary and democratical background of his family and the people arround him. He was arm in arm with the revolutionaries during his time at the ‘Yeni Levent’ grammar school. He wasn’t organized but involved in the struggle. He took part in the resistances and boycott actions. But his revolutionary life was actually strengthened after the period of 12th September. His elder brother was imprisoned during the years of the 12th September junta. He told everyone who asked: “I’m Devrimci Sol sympathisant through blood bond. The death fast in the prisons of 1984 has left a great influence with him. The determination, courage, the conviction in justice and legitimacy of this will struggle, began to become concrete in his own personality. Since then he wasn’t just revolutionary from blood bond. In 1989 he has been an organized Devrimci Sol member. Shortly after he was instructed within the Armed Revolutionary Units. He took his place as representative of the people against the enemies of the people.
He was imprisoned in June 1991. He was tried at the State Security Court of Malatya for “membership in the Armed Revolutionary Unit of Devrimci Sol” and punished with severe life sentence. Until the massacre of 19th December 2000, he had been in the prisons of Malatya, Bursa, Yozgat, Ordu and Bartın. He spent 14 of 17 revolutionary years of his life in captivity. For 5 years he stayed in the cells of the Sincan F-Type prison.
As hundreds of our comrades, who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our people and the independence of our country, he was also voluntary for the death fast. When he said good-bye to his comrades, with whom according to his own words he has ‘shared a warm conversation, a draught tea, a piece of bred and the struggle’, he was filled with anger towards tyranny.
His love to the people and the homeland was growing.
The oligarchy wants to destroy such a love.
The state of the oligarchy, the AKP government, aren’t able to break Serdar and people like him! The AKP government, which denies its thoughts and beliefs and constantly changes its mask in order to stay in power, forces the revolutionaries to bend down as itself. And so it hopes that it can break the revolutionaries and the resistance.
Serdar and all his comrades didn’t choose this struggle for individual interests but for the freedom of our people and for independence. By taking this decision they have taken to account a big price and they face it heroical and courageous. The road we march is the road of liberation for our people.
We’re going to continue this road, overcoming all obstacles of the governments and breaking the walls of isolation.
No one should believe that these deaths will remain unresponded. The responsibles are known and their hands are full with the blood of Serdar and the others. Once again we appeal to the AKP government while the blood hasn’t dried yet. Remove isolation, or we’ll finally smash it ourselves. And on that day you’ll have to give account for the blood that you have shed.
