Anti-Terror Branch (TEM) of the Istanbul Police launched an operation in 12 cities based in Istanbul on 28 October. The pool media announced that this was against the DHKP-C and that the top of the organization was among the detainees as well. SIMILAR TO OPERATIONS IN 2017!

The searches, which started with a list of 160 people, resemble operations in 2017 that included the lawyers of the Contemporary Lawyers (ÇHD) and the People’s Law Office (HHB) and were based solely on the statements of one confessor.

93 of 160 people were detained in various cities and places. Lawyers stated that they could detect 75 people.
Many people at the age of 15 to 70 were detained.
The detentions which in addition to Istanbul, were carried out foremost in Adana, Antalya, İskenderun, Hatay and Denizli, started at noon and turned into house raids in the evening. Lawyer Berrak Çağlar gave the following information about the custody and detention procedures:

’70 YEARS OLD, A WEAPON WAS DIRECTED ON HER WHILE READING THE QURAN’

“The search warrant is illegal. Because it was implemented by Istanbul TEM police, not by local teams. 70-year-old Ferdaniye Artig was reading the Koran when her house in Istanbul was raided and a gun was directed at her.
Also poet and activist Ruhan Mavruk was among those detained witout reason. During the death fast against F-type prisons in 2006, in which 122 people lost their lives, she had reacted to isolation applications.”

The gendarmerie raided the family house of CHD member, lawyer Seda Saraldi in a village of Denzili, where she went on vacation. The question “Why is the house of a lawyer who is at the courthouse every day, because of her profession, to be raided?”, is on the agenda. One day before lawyer Şaraldı was taken into custody, she was in Şakran Prison for visiting her client, and before that she was at the hearing in Aydın Courthouse.

UYAP (National Judiciary Informatics System) HAS BEEN CONSIDERED EVIDENCE

On the other hand, the flash disk of lawyer Saraldi, given to all lawyers by the bar association in order to enter the National Judicial Network Information System (UYAP), was confiscated.
The computers of her brothers from where they entered the Education Information Network (EBA) were also seized. There are parts that need to be evaluated in terms of public health as well as the judicial aspect of the issue!

PUBLIC HEALTH IS IN DANGER AGAIN

The fact that people gathered from 12 provinces were brought to Istanbul on long journeys and collectively in an environment where the bar association elections were canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic shows that the epidemic was not taken seriously enough.

Behind the scenes of the event shows how great the risk is for public health.
It was learned right at the beginning of the journey with a message from the Ministry of Health that one of the 16 people taken to Istanbul from Hatay had a positive coronavirus test. The person was dropped on the highway in Iskenderun. In Istanbul, it was learned that the person named Erhan Arslan also had a virus.

THEY JUST LEFT HIM IN FRONT OF THE HOSPITAL

The Anti-Terror police demanded exactly the following for Arslan from the lawyers: “Give us an address, we’ll take him there.”  When it was explained to the police that this request was unreasonable, Erhan Arslan was brought and left in front of Istanbul Bakırköy’s Dr. Sadi Konuk Education and Research Hospital.

THE HOSPITAL: THE PATIENT IS WITHOUT IDENTITY, SYMPTOMS ARE LIGHT, THERE’S NO PLACE!

However, Arslan’s identity, money and mobile phone were seized. The hospital said, “We cannot take a patient without an ID, the symptoms are mild anyway, and there is no room in our hospital.” Desperate, Arslan used public transportation vehicles and was directed to stay in an empty house found with the efforts of his family. Özgür Karakoç, who was brought to the Istanbul TEM, was released because he reached the “Test positive” information. However, those who still have symptoms of Covid-19 in security are kept in custody. A person has symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. There are patients who have undergone kidney transplantation, such as Aytaç Özçelik, in the same place with those who are suspected of having the virus.

Özgür Karakoç, who was brought to the Istanbul anti-terror-branch (TEM), was released because his “test was also positive”. However, those who have symptoms of Covid-19 are still kept at the police office in custody. Someone has symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. There are patients who have undergone kidney transplantation, such as Aytaç Özçelik, in the same place as those with suspected virus.

“NOW EVERYONE CARRIES VIRUS”

Lawyer Berrak Çağlar asked “Was the operation so urgent, even if so, why wasn’t enough precautions taken?”
“When they see it necessary, they even connect individuals they want to the court with SEGBIS (sound and video information system for live connection). If they called these people to testify, they would come.”

Caglar drew attention to a great danger for public officials and detainees at Istanbul’s Police Headquarters, as well: “Now everybody there is corona sick!”
