On Wednesday, September 5th, Ekrem Deniz Osmanoğluları, a Turkish-Dutch citizen was arrested on the Istanbul’s aiport “Atatürk” while he was on his way to attend 9th “Eyup Baş” Symposium as a translator.

Originally he was told that he was detained for nor declaring in 2017, in a case that the Izmir prosecutor openned. According to the lawyers from Progressive Lawyer’s Bar, the documents that were presented in the Bakırköy Court stated that he was to be released after taking the statement. However, the prosecutor then demanded his imprisonment. He was being imprisoned under the excuse of “spreading terrorist propaganda” over Twitter.

As Anti-Imperialist Front’s statement points out, this unlawful, unjust and arbitrary imprisonment shows the level that AKP’s fascist repression has reached. Ekrem’s true crime is a “crime” of thought, a crime of being democratic activist and opponent to the AKP’s fascist policies.
