Grup Yorum member Helin Bölek has turned her indefinite hunger strike in to a Hunger Strike till Death

The indefinite hunger strike, which members of the leftist music band Grup Yorum have been conducting for nearly 250 days, has become a Hunger Strike till Death / Death Fast(in turkish Ölüm Orucu).

Earlier this month, the band’s guitarist, Ibrahim Gökçek, who had been in the Silivri prison near Istanbul for nearly a year, announced that he was turning his indefinite hunger strike into a Hunger Strike till Death , the other two members of Grup Yorum, who also participated in the hunger strike – Ali Araci and Baris Yuksel announced that they were temporarily interrupting their hunger strikes.

The other two musicians from the Grup Yorum – Bahar Kurt and Helin Bölek, who went on hunger strike while still in prison, continued their hunger strike after being released at the end of November last year. Bahar Kurt and Helin Bölek continue their hunger strike at the House of Resistance located in Istanbul’s Kücük Armutlu neighborhood, today Bölek announced that she is turning her indefinite hunger strike into a Hunger Strike till Death / Death Fast.

In the meantime, it became clear that Bahar Kurt was temporarily interrupting her hunger strike.

To date, two members of the Group Yorum are conducting the Hunger Strike till Death with the following requests:

-We demand that our members be released and the cases be dropped.

The Ayçe İdil Erkmen Cultural Center [in Okmeydanı, İstanbul] was raided for eight times. We demand that police raids be ended.

-Our members have been put on the wanted ‘terrorist lists’ of the Ministry of Interior, we demand the removal of the list.

-Let the ban on concerts be removed and squares be open to Grup Yorum. We want a Grup Yorum concert.
